Otamot BBQ Sauce

Makes about 2 1/2 cups

Ingredients

1 jar Otamot Organic Essential Tomato Sauce **see note

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/3 cup light brown sugar

1/3 cup molasses

3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

2 tsp liquid smoke

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper

1/2 tsp onion powder

Preparation:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pot and place over medium heat, whisking frequently.  Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low.  Continue to simmer for 15-20 minutes, until all the flavors have combined and the sauce has reduced slightly.
  2. This BBQ sauce works great baked onto a rack of baby back ribs or spare ribs, stewed in a slow cooker with pork shoulder to make pulled pork, or as an accompaniment to smoky brisket.  The sauce will hold in the fridge for up to one month.

**Special Note – This homemade BBQ sauce is derived from a Kansas City-style sauce, that is a great combination of sweet, smoky and tangy.  If you like a spicier style sauce, try substituting Otamot Spicy Tomato Sauce to add an element of heat.
